CSMMU to start new courses

LUCKNOW: Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University would soon have 14 new departments. Nanotechnology, biostatistics, genetics, clinical immunology are important among others. A proposal to this effect was cleared by medical university's executive Committee (EC) here on Saturday. The EC also approved constitution of 140 new posts in the university hospitals keeping the increased patient and student count in mind.
Other decisions include upgradation of Trauma Centre as a teaching department with its own faculty and residents. Trauma Ventilatory Unit has been renamed as Critical Care Unit. The EC also gave clearance to promotion of various faculty members, after due selection were ratified and approved. New courses as M Phil in clinical psychology, psychiatric social work and diploma in psychiatric nursing course have also been approved.
University officials presented a brief on centenary year celebration before the EC and proposed projects related to patient welfare, attendants, faculty, residents and students and beautification of campus including repair and renovation of heritage buildings.
For the first time, two senior faculty members each from SC and OBC category were also invited as special invitee for the agenda related to their castes. Prof Narsingh Verma represented the OBCs, and Prof SN Sankhwar represented the SC category. For the SC it was decided to start a new medal to be given to MBBS topper from SC community, while Dr Anup Verma will be appointed as a liaison officer for grievances of OBC community.
