So the IAS Main 2013 will start from 1st December and this will be the first occasion when the IAS Main exam will be conducted according to new syllabus. The Exam syllabus & paper pattern are specified on the same web page. The general Studies paper II is concerned with the overall political structure of our country. The General Studies Paper II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations) is a comprehensive paper which will cover all the issues emanating from the political structure of the country. candidates applying for the examination keep visiting us on time to time to get all updates.


The Paper Pattern of UPSC IAS 2013 Exam is Given Below. IAS Main 2013 will start from 1st December 2013. The exam will be conducted on the new pattern as declared in the advertisement. The Main exam will consist of Essay, Modern Indian Language, English,  General Studies-I, General Studies-II, General Studies-III, General Studies-IV, Optional Subject Paper –I, Optional Subject Paper –II.

•    Except the paper on Modern Indian language and English all the papers will be of 250 marks.
•    The total of General Studies  will be 1000 marks (250x4)
•    The Modern Indian Language Paper and the English Paper will be of 600 marks (300x2).
•     Essay -250 marks
•    The Optional Subject will be of 500 marks (250 x2).
   The total marks of the written papers will be 2350 Marks.
The importance of General Studies has increased manifolds in the new pattern. The following are details of General Studies Papers.
•    General Studies-I 250 Marks (Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society)
•    General Studies -II: 250 Marks (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations)
•    General Studies -III 250 Marks (Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management)
•    General Studies -IV 250 Marks (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)

Recently the changes made and the interpretation of the Representation of People’s Act, 1951. The syllabus explicitly mention about the salient features of this act. It also requires the knowledge of structure, mandate and functioning of Constitutional Bodies, Quasi-Judicial Bodies, Extra Constitutional Bodies, Statutory Bodies and the likes such as Election Commission, Planning Commission, Finance Commission, Information Commission, Insurance Regulatory and Development Commission, Central Administrative Tribunal and the other similar bodies.This Paper 2 includes all the issues related to the political culture of the country. In addition to this it is an extension of the India’s interaction with the outer world. This paper focuses on the regional groupings and the relations with the neighbourhood. It means it will ask about the regional groupings such as ASEAN, SAARC, SCO and the likes.The best books to read are the Constitution of India (Bare Act), Constitution of India by DD Basu specially for the making of the Constitution, Federal Structure, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties, Emergency Provisions. The candidates can also rely on the Book ‘Indian Polity’ by Laxmikant for its simple, comprehensive and easy to understand coverage of Indian Political structure. World Focus will be required for the current Indian relations with its neighbours and the world powers. For the Social welfare schemes of the government the candidate should read the India Year Book and the Economic Survey. The NCERT book ’India and the contemporary world’ will be helpful for the international institutions.
