Forest Department starts e-governance project
AS A step towards modernization. Maharashtra Forest Department has now adopted Information Communication Technology (ICT) to systematically organised implementation and monitoring of forestry and other related operations by collection, storage and retrieval of management information system and Geo-spatia data through computer-based communication network.
Thec-governance will bring transparency, accountability, responsive attitude, effective monitoring, taking timely decisions etc.
First priority of this project was to establish robust IT infrastructure in the department in entire Maharashtra. As per rough estimates, the department spent about Rs two crore on this project.
In order to achieve the desired goal, various project initiatives pertaining to hardware, software, networking and capacity building are in progress. The department has connected 14 sites, including 11 Forest Circles, Mantralaya. Wildlife Circle Mumbai and Headquarters at Nagpur. The department has conducted 140 video conferences during the last two years, thus saving approximately Rs 2.80 crore. time and energy of the officers.
