Irrigation Projects in Vidarbha, Nagpur Region are full to brim

THE record rainfall during die first two months of rainy season has filled the reservoirs to the brim in Nagpur division. There are 18 big projects in the division along with 40 of medium capacity. In Nagpur district, five dams are full, in Chandrapur two, at Bhandara three and at Wardha tour dams. Further, water being released from Sanjay Sarovar Dam in Madhya Pradesh has led to flooding of downstream areas of Gondia and Bhandara. Among die Medium projects the 13 in Nagpur, four in Bhandara, 10 in Gondia. 5 in Wardha and 8 in Chandrapur are full to their respective capacities. 

Owing to continuous heavy rainfall. water is being released from Pench Totladoh and against iis capacity of 1,045 TMCM as of July 26 water level stood at 959.07 TMCM. means if rains continue as it the project would he filled to brim.
At Bhandara, the biggest project is Itiadoh (319 MCM) and it is having 178.26 MCM means 56 per cent full, Wagh-Shirpur (193 MCM) in Gondia district is having 135.64 MCM and owing to large inflow of water Irrigation Department is releasing 5261.93 Cusecs of water through dam's seven gates.
At Bhandara Gosikhurd Project (300 MCM) and water level is 134.15 MCM which is 45 per cent but even then through 28 gales the about 148.57 Cubecs of water is being release. This is so since the rehabilitation of a large submergence area of the project is not yet complete.
