IGNOU to offer new courses 2014

IGNOU to offer new courses 2014

With a purpose of understanding the psychology of adolescents, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has started a six-month course titled Certificate in Adolescent Health and Counselling (CAHC).
Taking serious cognisance of the increasing number of teenage suicides, IGNOU aims to enhance the awareness of teachers and parents on tackling and understanding the youngsters.
The course includes theory, self-activities and practical sessions and requires a minimum eligibility criteria of a graduate or teacher. During a press meet held on Thursday, IGNOU regional director P Sivaswaroop informed about the course and said that it holds a lot of relevance in the present scenario. "Small reasons like less marks, scolding by parents, love affair failure are enough to trigger suicidal tendencies among teenagers.
To avoid such unfortunate incidents, it is important to educate parents and teachers about the hardships faced by youngsters and proper ways of handing them," he said.
He further informed that IGNOU is also planning to launch more new courses like certificate in Competency in Power Distribution (CCPD) in collaboration with NPTI, and PG Diploma in Urban Planning and Development.
