Director of technical education (DTE) on Wednesday put off the release of the final merit list for the engineering centralized admission process (CAP) in the state by a day. The list will now be released on Thursday at 5pm.
The DTE has posted a public notice to this effect on its website and has also sent short message service (SMS) alerts relating to the revised date to the candidates who have filed their online admission forms for the 2014-15 engineering CAP.
However, the cause of the delay could not be known immediately as the DTE notice did not specify the same. Repeated calls by the TOI to DTE Subhash K Mahajan failed to evoke an apt response.
According to the initial schedule released last month by the DTE, the final merit list, which will form the basis for the centralized allotment of engineering seats in the state, was to be posted on the directorate's website at 5pm on Wednesday.
This was after the process for online submission of application forms and verification of support documents and confirmation of form in person at the designated application form receipt centers, was conducted between June 23 and July 3.
A provisional merit list, drawn on the basis of the composite score method calculated from 50:50 weightage to the percentile scores in the JEE Main 2014 and the physics, chemistry and mathematics group in the standard XII board exam, was released on July 5.
The DTE had made a provision for the next three days, July 6 to 8, to address grievances, if any, regarding errors in personal details or marks of the candidate and the final merit list was to be issued on Wednesday.
There was also no word yet on the release of the remainder of the engineering CAP schedule relating to the submission of online option forms and the conduct of the three CAP rounds. This was also expected to be released along with the final merit list.
The state government as well as the DTE is legally bound to complete the engineering admission process by July 29, according to the Supreme Court order issued on June 26. The classes have to commence from August 1.
